"Everyone wants a Christmas tree. If you had a Christmas tree Santa would bring you stuff! Like hair curlers and slut shoes."– Janet Evanovich, Visions of Sugar Plums
Time-traveling PhD student Sydney Dahlquist's first mission sounded simple enough—spend two weeks in December 1810 collecting blood samples from the sick and wounded of Wellington's army, then go home to modern-day Seattle and Christmas with her family. But when her time machine breaks, stranding her in the past, she must decide whether to sacrifice herself to protect the timeline or to build a new life—and embrace a new love—two centuries before her time.
Rifle captain Miles Griffin has been fascinated by the tall, beautiful "Mrs. Sydney" from the day he met her caring for wounded soldiers. When he stumbles upon her time travel secret[more...]
Personal Review: Sydney's Christmas plans have plunged down a long, dark hole with fire in it's depths, all because she botched her very first time traveling mission.
Finding herself not only stuck in the time, 1810, she must also make the hard choice, to ensure the timeline. Resolute to her fate, Sydney is terrified, for what comes next is nothing but darkness. Doing what's right is not always easy, but its harder when you have a handsome gentleman, talking you out of your hard choice, and presenting a much simpler one. This was a short read, and perfect for an hour, hidden away in a little nook. Its a Christmas romance that gets straight to the point, with its conflict and climax. It might seem a bit clinical and boring, but seeing the protagonist face a hard choice, while falling for a man she barely knows, is surprisingly more entertaining that I ever thought. It has sweet and tender moments, and then there's its subtle heat. This a time travel, Christmas romance, that presents a smart and upright female lead, and a hopeless romantic kind of male lead, who comes of a bit of an optimist. Dive into this short read, where women who find themselves stuck in a time not their own, are faithful to their choices, and finds themselves stumbling across love, all while holiday bells jangle.

Personal Review: Elizabeth's holiday is going further and further down hill. Now its gotten worse and her grief is tearing her apart. Alone on Christmas Eve,
Elizabeth is at her lowest low, but unexpected events, cause her to, quite, literally, slide through time and land right into the past. There she finds a young girl named Dodie who is in need of some life saving help. This is anther short read, and very much worth it. While I read, I was filled with fear and worry, and then extreme warmth that felt a lot like Christmas. The story isn't a romantic one, not in the sexual sense, but its a story of love and home. Please go for this one, it'll leave you smiling and impressed by the resilience of the female characters in this story. Jump in head first, and enjoy the warmth of Christmas with this one!
Thirty-year-old Eve Sharland is browsing a Pennsylvania antique store when she discovers an old brass lantern tucked away on a shelf. She picks it up and sees something behind one of the sooty glass panes. To her surprise, she finds an unopened letter stuck inside.
The letter is postmarked December 24, 1885, and it is addressed to Evelyn Sharland in New York City. Eve gasps and drops the letter. That’s her name! The letter is addressed to someone with her name in 1885: Evelyn Sharland.
Eve purchases the lantern and the letter, and returns to her New York City apartment. Later that evening, she opens the letter and reads it, astounded by its contents. She stares at the lantern in wonder and alarm, deeply moved by the story of a tragic romance.
A few days later, following a request in the letter, Eve cautiously lights the lantern. To her utter shock, she finds herself in the past[more...]
Personal Review: Eve Sharland has had the wierdest day. First pleasantly trailing through a run down antique shop, then finding a beautiful lantern, with a letter tucked within it.
Now that's not even the strangest part, its a letter addressed to Eve Sharland. Shocked and confused, Eve rushes home, and reads what's she's found. Moved to tears, Eve's normally unmoving heart, pushes her to act on the task described in the letter, only for her to find herself thrown, pretty harshly, back in time. An act of kindness has led her into a sticky situation where a philandering man seeks to make her his slave, and the man that moves her heart doesn't trust her. Now this is romance novel I can get behind. The female lead is strong willed, and very independent, something strange for the time she falls in. Its a time where women have very little rights, coming off as arrogant and too modern when they do what men do. To some she's strange but her strangness doesnt hinder her likability, and she is very much a likable character. Her entrance into the past freaked her out, but she logically devised a plan to get herself back and out of the wrong time. I like her quick-wittedness, and her goal to fit in as well as she can until she leaves. The protagonist did it well. When it came to the book you almost do forget that it's the Christmas season, but its subtle details that remind you, like the snow, the atmosphere, the carolers and decoration. The author does a great job of presenting the upcoming celebration without letting it take over the plot. One thing I most defiantly liked was the romance. When the two leads meet, it sets the entire story ablaze, thawing out the ice of the winter season. Trust me when I say this is one of the best Christmas reads I've ever read. Feel free to enjoy the life of a modern woman stuck in a past not her own, away from family, friends, and her dog. You won't regret it, especially when the two love interests have their moment. Dive into this one, where women in 1885 are much more modern than they seem, rich men think they can have everything, and police detective's smiles can warm the world up enough to melt snow.
